Bipartisan Delegation of Six Congress Members Visit Kenya with CARE Learning Tours and Save the Children Action Network to Learn About the Global Hunger Crisis

Sites visited included Kakuma Refugee Camp, Riokomor and Kangalita villages in Turkana County, a Farmer Field and Business School in Naivasha, and a Feed the Future site in Nairobi. The delegation was able to hear both directly from community members as well as implementors including Plan International, Population Aid Services, Zamzam Foundation, Somalia NGO Consortium, Nagaad Network, World Food Programme, Lutheran World Relief, World Vision, International Rescue Committee, CARE Kenya, Save the Children Kenya, Action Against Hunger, USAID Nawiri, African Women’s Agricultural Network, Red Cross Kenya, Mery Corps, Concern Worldwide, and USAID’s Feed the Future.

Drought in Horn of Africa ‘100 times more likely’ due to climate crisis

Drought in the Horn of Africa is now around 100 times more likely to happen due to the human-caused climate crisis, according to a study published on Thursday. The region, comprising Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya, is facing its most severe drought in four decades.

Ethiopia: Measles Outbreak Kills Eighteen in Oromia, Exacerbates Health Crisis Reeling From Cholera Outbreak, Drought, Flooding

It was indicated that Zonal Health Office in West Wollega managed to immunize 47,000 children under the age of five against measles in Kondala and Begi Woredas for four consecutive days on April 10 with the help of health cluster partners like Action Against Hunger, World Vision, the Red Cross, and Project Hope, reaching 98 percent of the target population. Additionally, the kids were given vitamin A supplements.

How we got here: The origins of the global food and nutrition crisis

It’s expected that in 2023, 345.2 million people are projected to be food insecure. At the same time, projects to remedy this are only receiving less than half the money they need, according to the Action Against Hunger 2023 Hunger Funding Gap Report. Guluma said IFRC is “struggling to respond, like everyone else, to save lives.”
