Faces of Change: A Virtual Photo Gallery

In a quiet village in rural Uganda, a mother learns how to grow nutrient rich crops that will help her children grow up healthy and strong. Nearby, a group of men gather, discussing their new roles as advocates for better nutrition in their communities. These are everyday moments, but together, they tell an extraordinary story.

They’re the stories behind Faces of Change, a new virtual photo gallery that spotlights the work of the Gender Equitable Nutrition in Tanzania and Uganda (GENTU) Project. Led by Action Against Hunger and supported by Global Affairs Canada, GENTU is a five-year initiative focused on improving nutrition for women, girls, and children.

What is the GENTU Project?

Across rural Tanzania and Uganda, women are the backbone of food production, yet harmful gender norms often mean they eat last and least. This leaves them and their children vulnerable to malnutrition and limits the potential of entire communities.

GENTU takes a gender-transformative approach, working to shift these deep-rooted gender norms, empower women and girls, and engage men and community leaders in creating lasting change. From expanding access to health and nutrition services, to teaching climate-smart farming practices, to challenging traditions that keep women from decision-making, the project is helping families break the cycle of hunger for good.

Stories Told Through Images

Faces of Change celebrates the power of joy, learning, and gender equality in shaping healthier, more resilient communities.

Through striking photographs, the gallery captures GENTU’s authentic moments of empowerment, agency, and human connection. From men learning new caregiving roles, to women leading nutrition initiatives, to children gaining the nourishment they need to learn and grow —each image reflects how small changes contribute to larger societal transformation.

Experience the Gallery

Faces of Change is more than an exhibition, it’s an invitation to meet the women, men, and children whose stories remind us that when women and girls have the same opportunities as men and boys, families prosper, food security strengthens, and futures become brighter.
