Gaza Crisis Appeal
Toronto, June 27th, 2025, Action Against Hunger is devastated to share the news that two of our colleagues, Mohammed Hussein and Obada Abu Issa, were tragically killed on the afternoon of June 26th, 2025, by an Israeli airstrike. The strike occurred in a highly populated area of Gaza that had not yet received evacuation orders. At the time, neither Mohammed nor Obada were working.
Both Obada and Mohammed were beloved members of our team in Gaza for the past year. Obada joined our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) team in February 2024 as a Program Field Assistant. Mohammed began working as a security guard with Action Against Hunger in June 2024.
Mohammed was 20 years old. He was looking forward to extending his contract for another year, trying to shape his future as best he could. Mohammed’s friends and colleagues cherish him as a model of morality, a boy with a generous heart that embraced everyone, giving those around him sincere support without asking anything in return.
Obada was 30 years old. In his death he leaves behind his wife and two children. He will also leave behind an irreplaceable gap in Action Against Hunger’s WASH team, where he was an integral colleague and friend who is remembered for his humor and professionalism.
Action Against Hunger calls for the protection of civilians, including humanitarian workers, and asks for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
Action Against Hunger will not forget Obada Abu Issa and Mohammed Hussein. We will continue to provide all support to their families and our team in Gaza.
We also reaffirm our unwavering commitment to our humanitarian mission, working tirelessly to provide support and hope for those facing unbelievable challenges in the Gaza Strip.
Action Against Hunger will always remember Mohammed and Obada with warmth.
