Action Against Hunger's COVID-19 response programs in Nicaragua

The State of Hunger in Nicaragua

Malnutrition, poverty, and maternal and infant mortality are all high in Nicaragua, especially in rural and indigenous areas. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate shocks have also increased unemployment and poverty.

Public safety, migration, drug trafficking, education and poor access to clean water and basic sanitation are some of the challenges facing Nicaraguans. Many live below the poverty line, making them highly vulnerable to seasonal hunger and food shortages.

How We're Helping in Central America

Action Against Hunger coordinates a dozen international and local NGOs to provide food assistance to thousands of people across Central America in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. In the wake of natural disasters, we improve access to clean water, safe sanitation, and good hygiene.
