You provide hope and opportunities to people fleeing violence in Syria – Thank you

When war broke out in her hometown of Aleppo, Syria, Lava and her husband were forced to flee to Iraq in 2013, where they struggled to integrate in the Domiz refugee camp in Iraqi Kurdistan. The language difference, poor living conditions, and fragile psychological state of the people already living there presented challenging obstacles to overcome.

But Lava did not give up. She worked hard to learn the language and she finally found a job as an English teacher for children, which she says eventually helped her feel accepted.

Lava later joined Action Against Hunger’s water, sanitation and hygiene team in Erbil, the capital city of Iraqi Kurdistan. Thanks to your support, she is now working with other members of our team to promote hygiene in refugee camps for Syrians.

Across the world, Action Against Hunger carries out similar water, sanitation and hygiene programs thanks to your commitment to our mission. We provide access to safe water to communities during emergencies, distribute hygiene kits, and build latrines to prevent outbreaks of disease. Thanks to you, we can also ensure lasting change in communities by training local people like Lava.

Thank you for your support.
