Impact of Typhoons Goni and Vamco
On November 1st, Super Typhoon Goni (Rolly), the most powerful tropical cyclone recorded in 2020, devastated several areas in the Philippines with violent winds, torrential rain, and mudslides. Bearing the brunt of the destruction was the Bicol Region. Two weeks later, Typhoon Vamco (Ulysses) brought heavy rains and flooding in Central Luzon and nearby provinces.
The typhoons have caused loss of life, injuries and destroyed homes and businesses. A total of 2 million people was affected by the two typhoons. They also came at a time when the Philippines is already suffering from a surge of COVID-19 cases and majority of the funds have already gone to support people suffering from the pandemic.
Our teams were on the ground 24 hours after Goni made landfall, going to the most affected areas in the Bicol region to assess the damages and the impact to communities. We found out that the immediate needs are Water Kits, Hygiene Kits, and Livelihood Assistance. When Vamco hit, we were still able to send out teams to assist the affected areas as well.
We need your help so that we can provide urgent humanitarian assistance to families whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed.
Your gift today will help rush aid and emergency supplies to the people suffering in this crisis. Together we can save more lives.
Thank you for your generosity.
