Danny Glenwright appointed as Executive Director

Danny Glenwright Action Against Hunger

TORONTO, 10 August 2015 – Action Against Hunger Canada is delighted to announce the appointment of Danny Glenwright as Executive Director.  The Toronto-based organization is part of Action Against Hunger International, a global humanitarian organization saving the lives of undernourished children and advancing sustainable nutritional health in some of the most vulnerable communities in the world.

Prior to his appointment, effective 4 August, Mr. Danny Glenwright was Executive Director of Journalists for Human Rights. He comes to Action Against Hunger with leadership experience in the not-for-profit sector in Canada and internationally, including field experience in Namibia, Sierra Leone, the Palestinian Territory, Mozambique and Rwanda.

Mr. Danny Glenwright also has more than 13 years of experience in journalism and media training, including as the managing editor of Xtra newspaper in Toronto and the editor of the Gender Links news service in Johannesburg, South Africa.

As a journalist and trainer I often covered stories about the importance of food security, nutrition, water and sanitation,” said Mr. Glenwright. “I am honoured to now lead a dynamic organization that is working to secure these basic needs for millions of people in more than 45 countries.”

Mr. Glenwright holds a master’s degree in international cooperation and development and a bachelor of arts in journalism. He is recognized as a leading voice on gender issues and media’s role in development, and his international efforts have been recognized with several honours, including the 2006 Canada-EU Young Journalist Award.

We are thrilled to have persuaded Danny to join us as our new Executive Director,” said Action Against Hunger Board Chair Colleen Mahoney. “His proven track record and his passion for our mission make him the ideal candidate at this stage of our development in Canada.”

As Executive Director, Mr. Glenwright will lead the implementation of Action Against Hunger Canada’s strategic growth plan, working with staff in Canada and at Action Against Hunger offices in France, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States to carry out innovative programs to save lives and restore dignity, self-sufficiency, and independence to vulnerable populations around the world.

As Action Against Hunger International globally enters into a new strategic phase we are pleased to have Mr. Glenwright with us in Canada as we continue to expand our programming and commitments to Maternal, Newborn and Child Health,” said Paula Tenaglia, Interim Executive Director and Director of Operations at Action Against Hunger Canada.
