Canada announces support for Action Against Hunger’s life-saving programs in 8 countries

Thanks to recently announced support from Global Affairs Canada (GAC), Action Against Hunger/ Action contre la Faim will be able to provide humanitarian support to more than 205,000 people in eight countries over the next 12 months.

The support varies depending on the humanitarian needs – from providing treatment to children and infants with severe acute malnutrition in the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to support for livelihoods and economic recovery in the Philippines and Yemen.

Additional funding will go toward improving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in Afghanistan, Colombia and Nigeria, and to the provision of mental health and psychosocial services in Iraq.

“Global Affairs Canada and Action Against Hunger Canada have a strong track record of working together successfully to address humanitarian emergencies around the world,” said Danny Glenwright, Action Against Hunger’s Executive Director. “This is increasingly important considering that overall humanitarian needs have become both more acute and difficult to treat where they are occurring: two challenges we’re working to mitigate with this generous funding from the Canadian government.”

Action Against Hunger is a globally recognized international humanitarian organization with a presence in more than 45 countries. Action Against Hunger staff provide emergency relief and focus on severe malnutrition, while also tackling the underlying causes of hunger and working with local systems to transform short-term interventions into sustainable, long-term solutions.

“Here at Action Against Hunger, we have put ending hunger at the forefront of our agenda and now, more than ever, malnutrition must be addressed as a top priority,” said Glenwright. “We want to thank the Government of Canada for continuing to be a strong partner in the fight against hunger, allowing us to address the needs of thousands of people around the world who are suffering from the impacts of conflicts and natural disasters.
