Toronto, September 23, 2019 – Action Against Hunger, a leading international organization that fights hunger and its root causes, today announced that its former Board Chair Colleen Mahoney will be awarded its inaugural Humanitarian Champion Award.
Action Against Hunger’s Board of Directors launched the award this year to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to the organization’s humanitarian mission of improving lives and alleviating suffering.
“As a long-time board member and an individual dedicated to making a difference, Colleen led the organization through some significant changes that have set up us for success,” said Victoria Davies, Action Against Hunger’s current Board Chair. “Her work has allowed us to continue to reduce hunger and malnutrition both around the world and in Canada.”
The inaugural award will be presented at the annual Food for Action fundraising gala on October 23, 2019 at George Brown’s Culinary School in Toronto.
Over the past ten years, Ms. Mahoney has demonstrated extraordinary service as a volunteer on the Action Against Hunger Canada Board of Directors, including three years as Board Chair. Under her leadership, the Board of Directors helped successfully shepherd the organization through a number of challenges, including a relocation from Montreal to Toronto.
Ms. Mahoney, along with her husband, Alister Campbell, annually supports the Food for Action fundraiser and is a longstanding member of Action Against Hunger Patron’s Circle of donors.
“Colleen has had a profound impact on this organization, as one of its top donors and champions and as a committed member of its Board for almost a decade,” said Danny Glenwright, Action Against Hunger’s executive director. “I can think of no one more deserving of this inaugural award.”
Ms. Mahoney joined the Action Against Hunger Board of Directors in 2010 and served as its Board Chair from 2015-2017.
