Humanitarian Champion Award - Action Against Hunger

In 2019, Action Against Hunger’s Board launched a new annual award: Action Against Hunger Canadian Humanitarian Champion Award.

This award will be presented at the Food for Action Gala, which is held annually in October. It is awarded by the Board of Directors of Action Against Hunger Canada. Submissions may be made to the Chair of the Governance Committee. The first recipient of this award was Colleen Mahoney.

This award has three objectives:

  • To document and officially recognize individuals that have contributed significantly to the global vision and mission of Action Against Hunger
  • To draw public attention to the full scope of humanitarian activity and in particular the fight against hunger
  • To inspire individuals to pursue humanitarian goals.

Humanitarian Honouree – an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary service, philanthropy, or advocacy to promote humanitarian causes, improve lives, and alleviate suffering.

Corporate Honouree – a corporate partner with a demonstrated a commitment to our organization and mission through financial or in-kind support; OR an organization who is mission-aligned and ready to become an advocate and help drive fundraising.

Youth Honouree – a youth supporter, 18-years-old or younger, who has fundraised or otherwise demonstrated commitment towards Action Against Hunger’s mission to create a better way to deal with Hunger.

Staff Honouree – a staff member who is moving on and has shown incredible dedication. This type of honour would be a way to help guests feel closer to the work they are supporting.
